A Collaborative Truth

This is a story that thirty-five students at Nova Southeastern University created together as a part of the Department of Humanities and Politics Story Booth series. Each student volunteered in passing in front of the Alvin Sherman Library to add a single sentence or two to our collaborative venture, in response to the prompt: "Add a sentence or more to our collaborative story, beginning with the line: As night passed and day dawned, Alex began to understand the truth …"

Two-Minute Memoirs

Memoirs allow us to see into our lives, to find shape in our seemingly messy day-to-day experiences, and to give insight into the moment in time that we occupy. The point is not to provide an objective historical record of any event but to offer your account of an experience and thereby provide seeds for understanding complex subjects. See our prompt here.

Book to Film Adaptations

Book-to-film adaptations have become increasingly popular. Hear our students and faculty talk about some of their favorite adaptations and thoughts about adapted stories. See the prompt here.

Ban Me

In the last week of September 2020 (September 28 – October 2), we celebrate Banned Books Week. What does it mean to be banned? Censorship is supposed to help prevent the spread of misinformation and abusive expressions, but it can also suppress individuals’ and groups’ rights and freedoms. This event was part of the Ban Me: Humanities Express Series, in collaboration with the NSU Center for the Humanities. See our prompt here.

Carnival!

Get your masks! Don your costumes, sequins, stage paint, hats, and feathers! And tell us: What is your Carnival? If you could put on a mask and be anyone or anything, who (or what) would you be? What would you do?

We have set up a special Zoom Recording Booth—open 24/7, from February 16 to March 16—where we invite you to tell us your story … or simply goof off! Carnival is a time of play, laughter, subversion, and liberation.

Unsure what Carnival is about? See our video introduction to Carnivals and the Carnivalesque here.

This edition of Story Booth took place in front of the Alvin Sherman Library, October 29, 2021, and was co-sponsored by NSU's Book Club, Wyrd.
